Chapter 5: The Edge MAKE YOUR DESCISION. Colin stood on the bridge, feet nearing the edge with hesitation, the lake sending gusts of frigid autumn wind racing up at him. Was this to be the final step? He was sweating again, like he always did. When his father left, when his mother died, when he jumped on a train headed directly into oblivion. Every mistake, every failiure, coming down on his head, his tired head, all at once. He took another step. TAKE SOME TIME TO THINK. He wanted to face it head on. Chapter 4: About DadColin took after Dad. Dad was passive, antisocial, abusive, boring, bland, violent. He had a wisp of gray hair and thick, black-rimmed glasses. Chapter 3: Shadow Of A Doubt SLAM The door closed behind Colin as he entered the unfriendly night. He could still hear his mother crying for her lost son. He almost wanted to feel remorse, but there was nothing. He never felt anything. There was a plan. There had to be a plan. BREATHE He was going to meet his friend. His new friend. Chapter Two: Let It Die Midnight gave way to a delicate morning as showers of sun washed away the dark. Colin had lost memory of the previous night, aimless wandering in the streets. He was a lethargic wreck as he stumbled around the single-room apartment, eyes half open, and grudgingly picked up his telephone and watched his last sick day disappearing down the drain.
